Extensions
To Typo3 extensions are like spice to a meal. They add functionality to a Typo3 powered web site thus significantly increasing its value. There are more than 2000 extensions available at the Typo3 Extension Repository.
Installing and managing extensions
The installation and management of extensions is very straightforward. In the left menu of the backend there is a module called extension manager, which acts as extension administration center. All one has to do in order to instlal an extension is to download it from the repository and import and install it via extension manager. There is absolutely no need to do manual work.
Programming extensions
Sometimes, when there is a special need for functionality, there might be no extension available to download. In such a case there will be the need to program a custom extension. However daunting this may sound, it is much easier than you think. All you need is programming skills in PHP 4 or PHP 5 and the online API documentation. Typo3's extension API facilitates programming because it provides the programmer with ready functions saving him a lot of work.
